No ongoing coaching commitment requiredStarted the role and something is not working as expected?
New roles rarely unfold exactly as planned.
- The team may be different from what you expected.
- Your manager may be unclear about priorities or success.
- Stakeholders may be pulling in different directions.
- You may be under pressure to deliver before you fully understand the organisation.
- Or the first-100-days plan you started with may simply no longer fit what you have discovered.
This focused 90-minute one-to-one diagnostic session is designed to help you understand what is really happening, identify what matters most and decide what to do next.
Bring the real situation
There is no standard agenda. We work on the issue that is making your transition harder right now. That might include:
- an inherited team that is not responding as expected
- an unclear or difficult relationship with your manager
- competing expectations from senior stakeholders
- uncertainty about what success actually means
- pressure to produce early wins
- organisational politics you did not anticipate
- uncertainty about whether to act or continue listening
- priorities that now need to be reset
The objective is not to give you generic new-role advice.
It is to help you make a better decision about the situation you are actually in.

How it works
Pay for the session and choose your appointment time.
Before we meet, send me a short description of:
- your role
- when you started
- what is happening
- the issue you most want to work through
If there are relevant documents, plans or notes, you can send those too.
We use the session on your real situation.
More about the session
Your original plan may no longer fit
A first-100-days plan is useful before you start.
But once you join, you begin discovering the organisation as it really is.
Priorities change. Stakeholders behave differently from what you expected. Your manager's expectations become clearer. The inherited team may need something different from you.
That does not necessarily mean your original plan was wrong. It means you now have better information.
The question is what you should change in response.
New roles are organisational problems, not just task problems
Taking up a new role is not simply about completing a new list of responsibilities.
You enter an existing system with its own history, relationships, expectations, politics and assumptions about what somebody in your role should do.
Sometimes the problem that initially looks operational is actually relational or organisational.
Part of our work is to understand which problem you are really dealing with before deciding what to do about it.
When this session may be useful
This session may be particularly useful if:
- the role is proving more complex than you expected
- you are struggling to establish priorities
- your manager's expectations are unclear
- you have inherited a difficult or unsettled team
- important stakeholders want different things from you
- you are unsure how quickly to start making changes
- you are under pressure to demonstrate early results
- organisational politics are affecting your ability to deliver
- you have lost confidence in your original transition plan
- you need an independent perspective before making an important decision
Practical support after the session
You will also receive one month's access to my New Role Transition resource library.
This includes practical frameworks and guidance covering issues such as:
- working with a new manager
- stakeholder mapping and relationships
- inherited teams
- organisational dynamics and influence
- early wins
- priorities
- transition planning
- probation and confirmation
You do not need to work through a course. We use only the resources that are relevant to your situation.
Why 90 minutes?
New-role problems are rarely isolated.
A difficulty with your team may actually begin with unclear expectations from your manager.
A stakeholder problem may reflect conflicting organisational priorities.
Pressure to produce an early win may be drawing you towards the wrong issue.
The first part of the session gives us enough time to understand the context.
The second part allows us to work properly with the problem rather than rushing prematurely to a solution.
What we do in the 90 minutes
First, we clarify what is happening and what has changed since you took up the role.
Then we separate: what you know from what you may be assuming and examine what else may be happening in the organisational system around you.
We then identify the underlying issue rather than simply treating the most visible symptom.
Finally, we decide:
- What requires action now?
- What requires further learning?
- What needs to be renegotiated or clarified?
- What can wait?
You should leave the session with:
- a clearer diagnosis of the situation
- a sharper sense of what matters most
- clearer priorities
- specific next actions
- greater confidence about what not to do yet
Why work with me?
I combine executive coaching with first-hand experience of senior leadership, organisations and organisational change.
I work with experienced professionals across different industries, organisations and cultures and I teach leadership, organisational behaviour and personal effectiveness to experienced managers and Executive MBA participants.
Our conversation can therefore move beyond generic onboarding advice.
We can work with the real organisational system you are entering: the people, politics, expectations, relationships, decisions and leadership challenges you are encountering.
