Performance Coaching
Practical performance coaching for leaders, managers and ambitious professionals
I provide performance coaching for professionals who want to become more effective in their current role. This work is for people who are already capable, but who need sharper judgement, stronger habits, better prioritisation, clearer communication or more effective ways of working with others.
Clients usually come to performance coaching when they are under pressure to deliver, stepping into greater responsibility, receiving mixed feedback, working harder than is sustainable, or realising that their current operating style is no longer enough for the level they are now expected to perform at.
Performance coaching is not generic encouragement. It is practical, focused and behaviourally specific. We work with the real situations where your performance is being judged: meetings, decisions, stakeholder conversations, team interactions, presentations, priorities, conflicts and moments of pressure. The aim is simple: to help you perform more effectively in the situations that matter.
Performance coaching is more directive than purely reflective coaching
We may still explore assumptions and patterns, but the work is usually close to the action.
I may help you prepare for an important meeting, structure a difficult conversation, rehearse a different way of responding, review how a situation unfolded, identify what others may be expecting, or translate general feedback
into specific behavioural changes. The work often asks:
- What is the performance issue beneath the surface?
- What is expected of you now?
- What behaviour is helping, and what behaviour is limiting you?
- Where are you working too hard in the wrong way?
- What would a more effective version of you do in this situation?
- What needs to change in your preparation, communication or follow-through?
- What would create better evidence for others?
This is coaching for people who want to improve through action, feedback and disciplined adjustment.
Who is performance coaching for?
Performance coaching is useful for:
- Senior professionals under pressure to deliver stronger results.
- Managers who need to improve effectiveness in role.
- Leaders receiving feedback about communication, influence, delegation or execution.
- Professionals who are working hard but not creating enough visible impact.
- New leaders who need to adjust quickly to a larger role.
- High-potential professionals preparing for more senior responsibility.
- Individuals who want practical guidance, not only reflectivequestioning.
The common thread is a desire to perform more effectively in real organisational conditions.
Typical issues that professionals bring to performance coaching
Prioritisation and focus
Deciding what matters most, reducing unproductive effort and shifting from activity to impact.Stakeholder effectiveness
Understanding what key people need from you, communicating earlier, reducing uncertainty and managing expectations more deliberately.Decision-making
Improving judgement under pressure, making decisions with incomplete information and avoiding unnecessary delay or over-analysis.
Delegation and delivery
Letting go of work that should no longer sit with you, creating clearer accountability and improving the rhythm of execution.
Meeting effectiveness
Preparing better, contributing with greater clarity, managing discussion and making sure meetings create decisions, alignment or action.
Behavioural feedback
Translating broad feedback such as “be more strategic,” “communicate better,” “show more leadership” or “increase impact” into practical behavioural changes.
Confidence and composure
Staying effective when the stakes are high, the feedback is ambiguous or the room is difficult.
Performance coaching helps make performance concrete. We identify what needs to change, test new behaviours and review what happens.
How does performance coaching work?
Performance coaching usually starts with a short discovery conversation. We discuss your current situation, what is at stake and what kind of performance improvement would make the biggest difference. If we work together, the process usually includes:
1. Situation diagnosis
We clarify the real performance challenge. What is happening? What feedback are you receiving? What are others expecting? Where is the gap between effort and impact?2. Behavioural focus
We identify specific behaviours to work on. These may involve preparation, communication, delegation, stakeholder management, decision-making, meeting contribution or demonstrating accountability.
3. Practical guidance and rehearsal
Where useful, I offer examples, frameworks, suggested language, alternative approaches and direct feedback. We may rehearse a conversation, plan a meeting, prepare a message or examine a recent situation.
4. Action between sessions
You test new behaviours in your real work environment. The aim is not tol earn a concept; it is to create a visible shift in how you operate.
5. Review and adjustment
We review what happened, what others noticed, what worked, what did not, and what should be adjusted next.
What makes this performance coaching different?
This is not abstract leadership theory or motivational coaching. It is grounded in real work, real relationships and real performance expectations. The work combines:
- My first hand senior leadership and management experience
- Practical coaching discipline
- Behavioural feedback and rehearsal
- Understanding of organisational systems
- Experience with senior leaders, managers and high-potential professionals
- A direct, confidential and action-oriented coaching relationship
The purpose is to improve how you operate where performance is actually judged.
